Backyard Gazebo Buying Guide

There are many things to consider when purchasing a gazebo.  Knowing what type of structure it will cover and the amount of space you have available is a good place to start.  Gazebos come in soft or hard top, can be semi-permanent or portable, and many offer additional features such as netting enclosures or lighting hooks.

To help you make the best decision for your space, we’ve highlighted some of the features to consider before purchasing below.  Continue reading to learn about all the things you need to take into consideration when shopping for your next set of adjustable dumbbells.  And, if you do it right, you shouldn’t ever have to do it again!

 Shape and Size

Most gazebos are either square, rectangular, hexagonal, or circular.  The best size and shape depend on the space you have available and what you want to put in it.  Be sure to measure carefully and read the dimensions of a gazebo before purchasing.

A 10 X 10 square gazebo will typically cover a full patio set, however depending on the spacing of your furniture you will still want to measure just to be sure.  When in doubt, get something with a bit more space than you think you need so you have room to grow.  You’ll likely never regret buying something too big later, but too little….maybe.

Having Friends and Fun in Gazebo

Frame Structure

Most gazebos have frames that are powdered-coated for rust-resistance. Frames are typically made of aluminum or steel.  The main difference between the two is the overall weight of the gazebo.  If you plan on placing the gazebo on an existing patio or pre-built structure, you will need to check the weight-limit capacity.  Aluminum frames are lighter yet not as durable.  However, they are easier to move if you plan on changing the location of your gazebo.  Steel frames will be more resilient yet considerably heavier.

Best Soft-Top Gazebo

Top Cover

Gazebos can come with hard-tops or canopy (soft) tops.  Hard-tops are a bit pricier but typically last longer with less maintenance.  They hold up better to the elements, especially wind, and can be left up year-round.  Canopy tops are easier to assemble but will fade overtime and most have to be taken down through the winter months.

Both will provide protection from the sun, however read carefully as some canopy tops only block 90% of UV rays.  Vented tops are available in both hard and soft top designs.  This feature will enhance air circulation and provide added stability against windy conditions.

Added Features

Many gazebos come with netting and curtains.  The netting is an added benefit if you are concerned about insects in your area.  Nets may be fastened with zippers, Velcro, or ties.  Zippers will provide the best closure and ultimately block out more insects.  Curtains are a nice add on to help block the wind when needed.  They can also be used to shade the inside of the gazebo and different times of the day or provide privacy from nearby neighbors.  Another nice feature to have is center or side hooks.  This allows you to hang added lighting or décor around the gazebo and could also be used to attach netting if not included in your original gazebo purchase.

Best Hardtop Gazebo

Conclusion

Gazebos are a great way to create a little oasis right in your own backyard.  Whether you’re looking to entertain guests, provide shelter for a hot tub, or just create a space where you can enjoy the outdoors, a gazebo is a functional and stylish solution.
